The Hostile State of Obstetrics.....
I attended two births last week that should have been beautiful Vaginal Births.
Instead, Both moms ended up with Cesareans.
The first birth, Mom was doing so great. She got the epidural at 5 cm and dialated to 10 centimeters in an hour. Everything was going smoothly. She began to push and everything was going great until her Obstetrician came in. The mood/tone/energy in the room suddenly went from warm and nuturing to cold and harsh. Anesthesia turned off the epidural to offer more effective pushing and the Obstetrician yelled at her to turn it back on. Hostile, Hostile Hostile. Then the babies Heart Rate dropped and well, Off to the OR, 40 minutes LATER after the OB talking to the husband for 20 minutes and me for another 20 minutes.
The second birth, Mom was in labor for 35 hours and was exhausted. This was suppose to be a wonderful, calm Homebirth which turned into a horrible, nasty hospital birth. We transferred mom for Maternal Exaustion and of course once the hospital found out she had Two Prior cesareans panicked and co-erced mom into a repeat cesarean. How Hostile has the birthing community become. I'm crying as I type this. It's so sad to witness this all the time.
If you're still reading, I reccomend reading the book: Born in the USA: How a Broken Maternity System Must Be Fixed to Put Women and Children First by Marsden Wagner.
